Despite scattered thunderstorms on Saturday, May 7, 2016, more than 1,300 dedicated runners and walkers came out to participate in the 11th Annual MOM Race for Mental Health Awareness & Suicide Prevention presented by Community Choice Credit Union. We also had the support of 36 business sponsors, 50+ teams, 60 volunteers, and 200 donors. The 2016 MOM Race raised another $45,000 for local brain research, suicide prevention programs, and crisis intervention services, bringing MOM’s fundraising grand total to $250,000!

Special Thanks

The MOM Race would not be possible without the support of the City of Royal Oak, our dedicated and hardworking volunteers, and the cooperation of the 186 impacted residents along the new race path.  Thank you for allowing us to put on a safe, family-friendly footrace in your neighborhood. A special thanks to my husband and family for their continued support and a shout out to my lead volunteers Andrea Anderson, Brandon & Laura Casanta, Liz Finkel, Audra Quinn, and Nancy Sieve for your role in putting on another successful MOM Race.  Royal Oak High School really stepped up to provide support this year including David Barnett and the ROHS cross country team, Renee Borton and the ROHS National Honor Society, Debbie Buffa and the ROHS choir, and ongoing support from Carrie Lawrence in the Counseling Department.  Thank you to Mike Leser, Bradley Mott, and Annie Tanalski for your graphic design help.  Finally, thanks to Erin Shahly at ArtSoul Therapy for your MOMorial assistance, Gary and Jackie Olsen for providing race timing services, and Becky Maas at Hamlin Corner for hosting the 2016 post party.
