Meet MOM Founder & Executive Director, Julie Farhat

Julie (Boledovich) Farhat is a lifelong Royal Oak resident and graduate of Kimball High School Class of 1999. Julie earned a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from Michigan State University in 2003. She worked as as engineer for 9 years but her mother's tragic suicide in 2005 changed the course of her life. Julie and her three siblings founded Mind Over Matter, lovingly referred to as MOM, in 2006 and started the annual MOM Race for Mental Health Awareness and Suicide Prevention to help erase the stigma and honor their mother's life. The 5K run/walk starts and ends at Starr Jaycee Park right across the street from where the Boledovich family lived for 20 years. To date, the MOM Race has raised more than $400,000 for local brain research, suicide prevention programming, and crisis intervention services. Julie was inducted into the Royal Oak High School hall of fame in 2016 and was recognized as 2019 Royal Oak Citizen of the Year for her philanthropic work. Julie currently lives with her husband and four young daughters in Royal Oak. When she's not busy with her family, nonprofit organization, or her family's construction business, Julie enjoys running, cooking and entertaining.
